Cycling routes across Slovenia
A 28 km loop from central Celje: a steep climb into the wooded hills to Celjska koča and the 721 m ridge, the panoramic top past the fortified church at Svetina, then a flat run home on the Savinja cycle path. About 660 m of climbing; bring low gears.
A 39 km loop from Solčava: a steep climb onto the Solčava Panoramic Road past the carved mountain farms and the Podolševa church, then down into Logarska dolina for the flat run up to the Rinka Waterfall. About 970 m of climbing; bring low gears.
The hardest ride on this site: 39 km from Bovec up the Soča valley and over the Vršič Pass at 1,611 m — Slovenia’s highest road pass — to the cobbled hairpins of the old Russian Road and the wooden Russian Chapel. About 1,340 m of climbing; ride it early.
A flat 46 km loop from central Ljubljana around the Barje marsh: out past Škofljica and Ig, through the UNESCO pile-dwelling country, along the open wetland past Podpeč lake and Notranje Gorice. Half asphalt, half gravel; ride it dry.
