Ojstrica & Osojnica – 3 Viewpoints Trail
Quick Overview – Ojstrica & Osojnica – 3 Viewpoints Trail
MUST-SEE A compact but demanding trail above Lake Bled that links three of the area’s most famous viewpoints: Ojstrica, Velika Osojnica and Mala Osojnica, finished with a calm lakeside overlook.
Trade-off: the climbs are steep and direct, but the view-to-effort ratio is exceptional. This is not a stroll around the lake — it is a viewpoint hunt with purpose.
- Type: moderate viewpoint trail
- Region: Alps (Lake Bled area)
- Works well with: Lake Bled days that already include walking and elevation
Trail stats
- Distance: 4.6 km
- Elevation gain: 276 m
- Time: ~3–4 hours including viewpoint stops
- Difficulty: Moderate (steep, rooty, requires steady footing)
What to expect
This trail is about elevation and angles, not distance. The climbs are short but steep, mostly on forest paths with roots and compacted soil. You earn every viewpoint.
If you want the classic Bled panorama without the climb, the standalone viewpoint at Velika Zaka / Mala Osojnica gives a similar scene with far less effort. This route is for when we want the full sequence.
Route in detail
1) Parking and trail start
Start from the signed parking area above the lake. The trail immediately gains height. There is no warm-up section, so settle into a steady pace from the first steps.
2) Ojstrica viewpoint
Ojstrica is usually the first major stop. It frames Lake Bled, the island and castle in one clean view. Early morning is best, but even later in the day the composition holds.
3) Velika Osojnica viewpoint
Continuing along the ridge brings you to Velika Osojnica. The viewpoint is broader and slightly higher, offering a wider lake perspective and deeper alpine backdrop.
4) Mala Osojnica viewpoint
Mala Osojnica feels calmer and less exposed. The angle over the lake shifts slightly, which is why we include it — the repetition is intentional, but not redundant.
5) Lakeside overlook
Before descending fully, the route passes a quieter overlook above the lake promenade. It eases the transition back to the busier lake edge.
Map
The map shows the full ridge route and all four viewpoints, starting and finishing at the same parking area.
Best time
- Early morning: calm air and clean light at Ojstrica.
- Late afternoon: warmer tones on the lake, fewer people on the ridge.
- Spring & autumn: cooler climbs and clearer visibility.
Safety & warnings
- Steep sections: roots and loose soil after rain.
- Exposure: viewpoints are open and windy.
- Footwear: trail shoes recommended; smooth soles struggle on the climb.
Logistics
By car
Car access is the most practical. This trail fits naturally into a day built around Bled, without complex transfers.
Public transport
Bled is well connected, but the uphill start still requires planning. If you arrive tired, consider the shorter viewpoint options instead.
Renting a car for trail days
Many of the trails on our portal are realistically done by car: early starts, flexible returns and last-mile forest or valley access are hard to match with buses.

Author note: for trail days, choose a compact car with free cancellation and avoid very late starts on longer routes.
How this trail fits into routes
This is our primary viewpoint hike in the Bled area. It pairs well with lake-level walks and balances flatter routes like the Lake Bled in One Day plan.
- One-day: viewpoints in the morning, lake promenade in the afternoon.
- Multi-day: a moderate day before or after longer alpine routes.
Conclusion
Ojstrica & Osojnica is the most efficient way to earn Lake Bled’s best views. It asks for effort, but the sequence of viewpoints makes the climb logical and rewarding. If you want depth, not just a photo stop, this is the route.
